On Friday the 13th of March, Coláiste na Trócaire welcomed Bishop Brendan Leahy to our school. On his arrival he was welcomed by Ms Giltenane and Sean O’Connor, who is a member of the student council. Along the corridor, students played beautiful music as Bishop Brendan visited the office to meet the Principal Mr Cusack, Deputy Principal Mrs Burke and the secretary Mary.
The Bishop visited two class groups of second year students. Aoife Murphy welcomed the Bishop to our school and gave him a brief background of what has been happening in our school recently. Phoenix Mulcaire Shire, Amanda Giltenane and Jessie Shire Williams created a short presentation and presented it to the Bishop. The students were delighted to meet him and got an opportunity to ask him many questions.
One student said ‘he was very friendly and polite. He included everyone in the conversation and elaborated his answers. He made us think back to our Confirmation and reminded us how wonderful a day it was‘.
The Students Council met with him in the Oratory where they had organised tea and cake. He blessed the school, the staff, the students and Padre Pio Medals that were handed out to members of the Student Council. Keith Ruttle presented the Bishop with an engraved pen from all at Coláiste na Trócaire and Donal Walsh’s Remembrance card that we received from Elma Walsh earlier in the year. Ms. Giltenane would like to thank everyone who helped organise this special occasion and Ms. O’ Brien and Ms. O’ Keefe who welcomed Bishop Brendan into their classrooms.
