On Friday 4th April 2014 a 51 strong squad of athletes from Coláiste Na Trócaire participated in the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board (LCETB) Sports Day at U.L. Enthusiastic and committed performances by all team members ensured that Coláiste Na Trócaire finished in 1st position and regained the shield for Best School Performance for the first time since 2011.
The ability, pride and team ethic demonstrated by all our students on the day was fantastic to witness and this was exemplified by our U-14 athletes who took gold in 8 out of their 9 events (Girls 4x100m, Boys 4x100m, Girls Medley, Boys Medley, Mixed Relay, Girls Shot Putt, Girls Long Jump and Boys Long Jump).
Students competing in both the U-16 and U-18 events, with a greater experience of the LCETB Sports Day, showed a ‘never give up’ attitude continually during the day and strong finishes in U-16 Girls 4x100m, U-16 Boys 4x100m U-16 mixed Relay and U-18 mixed relay earned the team valuable points which helped keep us ahead of our nearest opponents Castletroy College.
Further strong performances in the Shot Putt and Long Jump events ensured that we topped the table when all the results were added up at the end of the day. It was with great pride joint team Captains Roisin Ambrose (2nd year) and Mikey Morrissey (5th Year) accepted the LCETB Sports Day Shield on behalf of our competing athletes and the school
