Mercy Day
The Annual Colaiste na Trocaire Mercy Day Mass was celebrated by Fr. Tim Curtin on Monday 24th September. St. Mary’s Church was filled to capacity with students, teachers and a number of parents. The School Choir, soloists and musicians directed and conducted by Ms Jean O’Brien contributed greatly to the occasion. This event marks the beginning of the new school year in a very special way. Fr Willie Russell and Fr Michael a visiting priest from India also concelebrated. At the end of the Mass Fr. Michael gave a short talk in which he outlined the work he is doing in Kerala, India and the course of study he is currently pursuing in Rome. He gave an inspiring and encouraging talk on the value of education and faith to the attentive and appreciative congregation.
Retreat
Second Year pupils went on Retreat last Friday when they climbed Knockfierna, they were accompanied by Fr. Tim Curtin and Ms Lorna Bunyan their Year Head. Mass was celebrated on the ancient site and pupils were given a talk on Creation Spirituality which is based on the principle of caring for nature and the environment.
Careers
Last Tuesday 6th Years attended the Annual Careers Exhibition at Limerick Racecourse. Students were afforded the opportunity to research possible careers, meet with lecturers , get advice about courses and become familiar with the specific requirements for each. Students were able to collect information on a wide range of careers. Ms Bunyan and Ms Ahern accompanied the students on this trip.
CnT Careers Day 2012
‘Your Career – Your Choice’ is the title of this year’s forthcoming Careers Exhibition which will be held on in Colaiste na Trocaire on Saturday October 13th. This event is being held in conjunction with the Parents’ Association who will host the occasion.
The morning session is for 6th Year students, Mr Pat Hennessy will facilitate an interactive, explorative supportive workshop.
The afternoon session will afford students, parents and guardians an opportunity to interact with people from an extensive spectrum of careers and educational establishments. Ms Harrison, Career Guidance Counsellor will also facilitate the afternoon workshop.
Team Hope Speaker
Bibi Brosnan visited the school on Friday 28th September to speak to students about the Christmas Shoebox appeal. She spoke to students from 5th and 6th Year about where the shoeboxes are delivered and how they can help in the appeal. The students will be helping out by donating filled shoeboxes.
Sports
Students from Junior Cycle took part in a Camogie Blitz on Tuesday which was held in the Sports Complex Mallow. Two of our two teams got through to the semi-finals on the day.
