Last week was dedicated Healthy Choice Week in Colaiste na Trócaire Rathkeale as students and staff focused on a variety of different aspects of health and health awareness and the concept of ‘Healthy Body/Healthy Mind.’ On Monday Dan Neville T.D gave a very interesting talk to senior pupils on ‘Positive Mental Health and Coping Strategies’ the emphasis in this talk was to encourage young people to develop a positive mental attitude to study and life in general.
Junior cycle students enjoyed a Martial Arts Class with Mr Shen at the commencement of the week’s activities, this popular mental and physical practice helps to improve muscle and cardiovascular fitness.
Pupils also enjoyed a talk titled ‘The importance of Health and Fitness’ given by Joe O’Connor, past pupil and fitness coach with Clare Senior Hurling Team. Other events throughout the week included workshops on healthy eating given by Ms Deirdre Keating Home Economics teacher. Guest speakers addressed senior cycle pupils on topics relating to addiction, teenage pregnancy throughout the week.
In a time when computers and internet technology is very much part of young peoples’ lives students were given a course on ‘Safety on the Net’.
