Our U15 girls soccer team qualified for the school’s first ever Munster minor Cup final after a spirited win over a talented Abbeyfeale team. The game, played in ideal conditions on Adare’s all weather pitch, started at a furious pace. It didn’t take the Rathkeale girls long to settle and after 10 minutes Pat King pointed to the spot when Alicia O’ Callaghan was fouled inside the box. The same girl calmly slotted home the penalty to put Coláiste Na Trocaire 1:0 up.
Abbeyfeale started to up the tempo and only for some excellent goalkeeping by Ciara Houlihan they could have easily levelled matters. Rathkeale added another goal just before half time when Molly O’ Connor was on the end of an excellent cross from Molly Cagney after some excellent work from Aimee O’ Keefe and Anna Mullane.
The second half started like the first with end to end action. The back four of Hannah Moran, Ellen Mc Mahon, Leah Cunninghan and Aimee Tagney delt with everything Abbeyfeale could throw at them. Helped also by the services of Emma Dalton, Ciara O’ Connor and Lisa Lynch. With 5 mind left on the clock – Abbeyfeale got one back but the Rathkeale girls worked hard to make sure that was it. This was an unbelievable team performance from start to finish. It is the school’s first year entering this competition and they have now set up a Final pairing with the highly fancied – Presentation Collage Thurles. well done to the team and to their coach Ms. Mary Casey
