On Thursday 6th September 2018 our victorious Munster double winning Senior Hurling and Football teams received their medals. We were delighted and honoured to have former student and All-Ireland winning coach, Joe O’Connor as our special guest to present the medals to our successful teams. Joe spoke to those present about how effort, commitment and discipline on the sports field can be transferred into everyday life and for the lads to remember their success and where they have come from. In regards to sports, he said that many athletes focus on what they cannot do which leads to a lot of negativity. Instead athletes should identify their strengths and aim to make them even stronger. Joe emphasised the importance of the small margins in attaining success and how concentrating on 3 “rocks” or areas and improving them instead of trying to improve 100 things would help lead to improvements and success. He used the example of Paul O’Connell who thrived once he focussed on optimum sleep, optimum training and optimum nutrition. All of these can be transferred into numerous areas of life.
Many thanks to our new principal Mr Michael Behan, to Joe O’Connor for attending as our special guest, to parents and guardians who have supported the lads every step of the way and to the lads themselves for their effort, enthusiasm and hard work over the years.
