Seven students from Coláiste na Trócaire have been offered the opportunity
to attend this year's summer course at the Centre for Talented Youth, Ireland
{CTYI} which has its headquarters in Dublin City University. The CTYI is a
youth programme which was founded in 1992, it provides specialised
courses for young people with exceptional academic ability in verbal and
numerical reasoning. This organisation recently carried out a talent search
assessment and several students from Coláiste na Trócaire participated
in these assessments. The Centre offers various courses in DCU for gifted
students as well as conducting research and promoting the needs of the
talented in Ireland. The assessments are designed to pick up on exceptional
academic ability and the top scorers are eligible for CTYI summer courses
including Medicine, Engineering, Psychology, Creative Writing and Computer
Gaming. The courses offered tend to cover material that is of First Year
University Level or its equivalent. The students who were offered courses are
Declan McCarthy, John Reidy, Helena Fitzgerald, Catherine Fitzgerald, Cormac
Lynch and Jason Murphy. Also included in the photograph are Mr Kevin Cusack
