The Butterfly Club opened its doors in Rathkeale in September 2004 as a follow on to the 2003 World Summer Special Olympics games in Ireland. The club is a social club for children and teenagers with special needs and caters for those aged 3 years and up from all areas of Limerick. We are a totally voluntary run club. One of our primary aims also is to provide respite to the parents of these children.
Mission Statement
To provide leisure activities in a safe, fun filled environment for children and young adults with special needs while providing respite for parents/guardians.
Coláiste na Trócaire has a proud relationship with The Butterfly Club. In 2004 the club started with 3 groups based in Coláiste na Trócaire. Each group had it’s own Saturday each month. When Croí na nÓg was built the club moved into it. There is an active Butterfly Club in the school. The students have raised money through organised events for the club and last year members of The Butterfly Club in the school received a Garda Youth Award.
